Mrs. McDonald??

Old McDonald had the farm and on the farm, he had some chickens....but Mrs. McDonald was surely the chicken guru. I can just see her in her kerchief and apron, flinging scratch out across the chicken yard.  I can hear the chickens clucking  and cackling to each-other as if sharing the latest gossip. I can feel her excitement build as hens grow broody and thoughts of new babies invade her peaceful mind.

I can relate.

To me, chicks are dang near the cutest barn yard critter.  Don't get me wrong, all newborns are adorable.  There's just something so cute about that teeny-tiny, fluffy little fluff balls that make me wanna love'em and hug'em and squeeze'em and call 'em George or Fluffy.

My name is Katie and I have an addiction....I am a chick-a-holic.

I am not alone in my addiction.  Four of my closest farm-girlfriends are just as consumed as I.  I have it so bad I started a fan page (well, I made my friend Alexis do it for me cuz she's much better at that techno stuff than I....thanks Lex!) ...for chick-a-holics.  Its a safe place for all us crazy chicken folk to share, commiserate, drool over newly found breeds or ask questions.

The latest craze is by far the most consuming.  We call it "The Bator" or cheap-Styrofoam-beer-cooler-turned-incubator. The Bator is the creation of my farm-chickie heroine, Cara.  Cara fell madly in love with my Silkie chickens of which, 3 out of 5 happened to be of the crowing variety.  So, she hatched a plan to acquire for herself some fluffy bottomed chicks. After a quick trip to The WalMarts and a jaunt out to the Calamity Hen House, Cara had all she needed to start her own in home incubation center. And start she did.  Best of all, the plan worked.  The beer cooler turned incubator actually hatched out live chicks.

Well, I was hooked.

I borrowed The Bator, loaded it with 7 tiny Silkie eggs and waited.  And turned eggs.  And fretted. And candled. And fretted. And turned eggs.  And waited some more.

Then...yesterday, the most amazing thing happened!

They started to CRACK!

They started to HATCH!

Soon we had a chick, followed shortly thereafter by another chick.  So far, just two of the seven are out.  They are a Black/Cinnamon Splash.  The other five eggs are pipped and we are anxiously awaiting the new arrivals.  I almost can't contain the squeals of delight.  My kids are ecstatic! We're gonna love'em and hug'em and squeeze'em and we're gonna call this one... George.

Welcome to Calamity Farm George. *squeeeal*

P.S.
While I was busy playing Mrs. McDonald I totally forgot my plan to celebrate my Blogiversay. As of June 6 Katie's Calamities is four years old.

Happy Blogiversary to me! Here's to four more year of Calamity fun!

Lame excuse and a cause

Since my last computer tragedy, I have had a really hard time getting my groove to well, groove.
I sit and stare, vacantly at the screen and nothing comes.

This night is no different. I have spent an hour adding some tunes to my play list, rocking out to the Across the Universe Soundtrack...still nothing. Surely the Beatles would inspire...

NOT!

I am feeling stressed out (and quite sad frankly) about not having an original piece to submit to the 'Some Times Life is Funny' book fund raising project for NieNie. Why is my brain not working? I sent in some old stuff but, ya know, I would really like to help the cause with some fresh wit. NieNie deserves at least that much.

Hello? Brain? Work with me here...

OK folks, there is nothing to see here. Move right along. Go send something to Sue for this amazing book. You only have until the 30Th.

And...

start saving your pennies so you can buy 10 20 of these babies and send them to everyone you know...for Christmas!

Alright, off you go!

By the way...

For some strange reason I am having blog troubles. I don't know why I am suddenly faced with bloggy trials. I have never, ever had problems with blogger before.

*pfft!* I am a liar.

I am so stinking frustrated with this blogger business.

For weeks now I have been having missing sidebar issues. So, I tried all sorts of changes, hoping that some, one thing, might make a difference. Well no such luck!

My sidebar is now a footnote.

When I go to the "Customize" page all of my cute little sidebar item rest peacefully, as they should, on the side of my blog. BUT. When I return to my blog all of those items are at the bottom of the page. What gives?? Anybody technical out there? Blogger Help is no help at all.

In the meantime; know that I didn't delete you, my precious Diva's, from my life, you have just fallen and can't get up. :)

Spread the love...

Here is a bouquet I picked just for you, dear reader. Isn't it just lovely? The little daisy like flowers of the Feverfew plant always succeed in making me smile. I hope that it brings a smile to your face as well.
As well as a nice little bouquet, I have some blogs to share with you. Some of you may have heard of these places before but most of them are new to me so I thought I would play nice and share.
  • Mrs. G at Derfwad Manor~not for the faint of heart. Hilarious, and well, hilarious.
  • Angry Chicken~this authoress is my new guru. A sewing blog with lots of other cool stuff thrown in for fun.
  • Blue Yonder~Stephani is a fun loving, homeschool mom and she just put up a recipe for Jack Daniels Pie...hello, can we say YUM'O?!
  • Dana at The Old Red Barn Co.~ just plain cool. A must see and a must enter. She is giving away the most adorable quilt. I would encourage you to go check it out but that would lower my own chances of winning.....ummm, forget I told you about that contest K?? NO! Wait, go check it out. No. Yes. OK, I give up!
  • The Replacers~this is The Inspector Generals new blog. I got tired of him leaving comments in my name, so I told him to get off his tookus and get a life blog. He is trying to get me to use the moniker, Agent K. What do you think?? Should I bow to his wishes?? Either way, visit his page and leave him a comment because let me tell you a secret~he has been readin' all y'alls blog posts...yup.
  • Soule Mamma~if you haven't been here, go, run to the crafty goodness of this blog.

Well friends, that does it. Got any cool places to share?? Spread the love, baby.

I am totally FREAKIN' OUT!

Holy flyin' frogs, Batman! Did you see all those comments on my last post? Yup a whoppin' seven, that's right, you heard me, I got seven comments on my blog! I am a total wreck. Not all of my friends commented AND I didn't even cheat and leave one from me.......Whoot! Whoot!

O' my goodness. I am so, umm giddy. Silly. FREAKED out!

So, yesterday I was at school, which I hate, but do anyway 'cuz I have brain damage.

I get a call, (which wouldn't have been so embarrassing had I turned off the ringer, but they all understood, 'cuz I have brain damage) from my Farm Suite friend.

farm suite: O' my gosh, did you check your blog this morning???
me: Uh, no.
farm suite: O' my gosh, you have SEVEN comments, I am so jealous.

The news to which, makes me shriek like a contestant on the Price is Right.

me: What??? I have comments?
farm suite: YAH, the Navel Gazer left you a comment and the Unusually Unusual left you a comment.......and Amydeanne and even Misty took a break from her break and Toni and Ricky Danger.......

Since I had shot coffee out of my face, at the shock and awe of it all. I am frantically wiping at the phone and myself. Look to see if any one noticed. Attempt to do the Running Man, not a good thing. People are staring. BAD.

me: NO WAY! O' my gosh you are kidding right?? NO WAY!

Giddy and giggling like a child. Dancin' around the room. Doing the I won the Lottery dance.

me: O' my goodness! I am totally freakin' out..........What did they say??!!

My friend reads me the comments, to which I laugh hysterically and dance a little more. At one point I thought I would take another drink of my coffee only to gasp and choke, shooting more coffee from my nose. This probably isn't good for the phone.

farm suite: The blogging diva's have come down from on high to read YOUR blog! I am SO jealous!!
me: No way. That is so COOL!

I am a genius, I know. I can articulate in ways that make your head spin.

So after much stalking reading, and begging, hoping, for comments from the blog diva's, I got my wish! I am in blogger heaven!

Thank you so much ladies, for taking the time to visit little ol' me. Come again. (Please, please.)
